Secretary's Message

The Board of Secondary Education, Assam commonly known as SEBA was established in the year 1962 with an objective to improve the quality of the Secondary Education of the people of entire North East in general and Assam in particular. The Board is governed by the Assam Secondary Education Act, 1961.

The SEBA started its activities under the guidance & leadership of Late Dandeswar Gogoi as the first Chairman and Late Nurul Islam as the first Secretary.

Since then, SEBA had been rendering its 53 years service to the people particularly the student community all over the state of Assam in the field of Secondary Education. Of course, SEBA passed through phases of ups and downs during this long journey of 53 years.

Today, SEBA has become a household name as it has tremendous impact in the mind of public since it holds the first such public examination that is the prestigious HSLC/AHM Examinations and thereby opening the door of higher education for the Student community of Assam. Furthermore, it prepares the Syllabus, Textbooks for Class –IX and X with a scientific perspective. It also prepares the Academic Calendar etc. to maintain a smooth and balance education in the Schools. It has always been endeavoring for developing the curriculum to cope up with the present modernization of education for a desired quality education in the secondary level.

To ease the task of verification of education of the students which is mandatorily required in regards to employment, SEBA has computerized all the Students data for the year 2012, 2013 and 2014 enabling to verify the documents on line through SEBA website seba.assam.gov.in which was inaugurated by the Additional Chief Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Education (S) Department. One can verify the genuineness of Certificate, Mark sheet etc.

In 2015, SEBA has, for the first time introduced the OMR with ICR technology in the HSLC/AHM Examinations which has apparently proved to be successful for an error free result of HSLC/AHM Examinations, 2015.

Recently, another new website www.sebaonline.org has been launched for the public in general and students in particular enabling to get all the information relating to HSLC/AHM Examinations and also to download the required documents.

I am determined, with the co-operation and constructive suggestions from all corners, to strengthen further and boost up our national institution SEBA.
